Instinct serves as an invaluable guiding tool during challenging and turbulent times.

There is no doubt that the fluidity in the economic, social and political spheres has had an impact on personal and professional goals in many ways. This impact may have been either positive or negative depending on individual circumstances. Some goals may have been fast tracked or new goals created, while other goals may have been moved to the back burner.

The horizon may not appear to be very clear due to the many personal and global challenges which still lay ahead. There may also not be a detailed up-to-date “map” to help individuals navigate through these challenging times. However, individuals can be assured they have their own internal satellite navigation called instinct which is imperative in creating a clear path in achieving desired end results.

Instinct Serves as Guidance during Challenging and Turbulent Times

Each individual has a unique hard wired system which enables them to navigate in the world and each one has a unique inner voice which can become friend or foe. It is worth spending a bit of time becoming familiar with the inner voice which gradually enables the individual to start building up a clearer picture of what they want and how they are going to get it. The more familiar an individual is with his/her inner voice, will determine the speed at which progress can be made.

Focused thinking and planning just doesn’t happen over night but it does require a great deal of flexibility, will power, drive, determination, experimentation and commitment which is needed to enable the execution of the goal actualisation process. Without it, the process will take much longer and there are no guarantees that the desired results may even materialise.

For many years, experts, academics and gurus have advocated the importance of being very clear and specific when it comes to goals right down to the details. They advocate the more specific and clear the goals and action plan, the greater likelihood of goal actualisation. Here’s an analogy: Imagine driving in foggy conditions without fog lights and without the fog lights, travelling would be hazardous making it a dangerous journey full of many unsuspecting obstacles. The same is applicable to individuals who are unable to articulate a clear plan to navigate during challenging and turbulent times

In reality, many people have great goals/dreams and ambitions but they never get them off the ground either because they don’t know how to get them off the ground or because they don’t have a clear course of action in mind. Subsequently, dreams will continue to remain just that – dreams.

Procrastination Hampers Having a Clear Focus

The many challenges people face places greater demands on time and resources thus not making dreams/goals and ambitions a number one priority, particularly in a time of economic turmoil. Moreover, it is really easy and very comfortable to go into hibernation mode and wait till “the coast is clear” but this can be a great excuse for procrastination. In some cases, it may not even be feasible to action the goals for whatever reason and consequently, many people will put aside plan until “things are better.”

Procrastination means that when the uptake does occur, these same people will be playing catch up rather than making leaps and bounds in terms of progress. Sport personalities and geniuses are great examples as role models who consistently and continuously have specific and clear plans of action when it comes to goals and targets. This mindset serves well in carrying on regardless during challenging and turbulent times.

Benefits of Having Clear Focus

By having a crystal clear focus the following benefits are attainable:

  • Empowered decisions towards goals and dreams;
  • Greater sense of achievement;
  • Being proactive;
  • lnstinct naturally kicks in and assist because the individual will learn to trust the process.

Pause for Thought

It is worth pausing for a moment and mulling over the following questions which may serve well in achieving a crystal clear focus.

  1. Take a moment to focus on goals which have been set.
  2. What steps or course of action need to take place for goal actualisation?
  3. What new insights have been gained as a result of the process?
  4. How can any new insights be incorporated into the goals process?
  5. How can any obstacles be removed?
  6. How will a crystal clear focus be maintained?

In essence, greater clarity will lead to better choices which no doubt will lead to superior results. Readers may also enjoy the following article on deliberate practice which extols the art of smart practice utilised by sports starts and geniuses.
